The Insight Extranet

Insight believes that new technologies have a significant role to play in people development, alongside conventional training and mentoring techniques. To this end we have been working to ‘e-enable’ our training and development services.

In the past few years we have constructed the Insight Extranet - an innovation designed to support classroom learning by e-means. Using their password access, clients and staff can view on screen, download and print information 24/7 about our:

• Programmes
• Learning materials
• Linkages to competency frameworks
• Assignments for qualifications
• Venue details
• Pre course work
• Workshop materials
• Tutor profiles
• Post course materials

The extranet also allows Insight to record and monitor participant attendance at taught sessions. This enables us to gain ongoing feedback about the quality of programmes from delegates. Pre-course work and follow-up assignments can also be routed through the extranet.

We believe the extranet offers candidates greater ownership of their learning, as well as better quality materials and tutor support. It also supports the sustainability agenda by avoiding mass print runs of materials by allowing participants to work “on line” and print only those materials relevant to them.

The E-academy

The extranet has been so successful that we have now moved on and developed the Insight ‘e-academy’ – a resource which uses high quality distance learning materials alongside interactions between learner and a personal support tutor in order to coach, clarify and check learning.

The e-academy provides a range of management training programmes, targeted to meet the needs of modern Local Authorities and businesses. Some materials may be relatively generic; others can be tailored around the specific requirements of the client. Programmes are sub-divided into modules and the learner only progresses through a course when their tutor has established that the staged learning has been mastered.

Accreditation is fully supported through the e-academy, each learner being allocated their own ‘accreditation manager’ who can guide them on any issues relating to the qualification that they wish to gain.

Each programme in the e-academy has its own ‘forum’ enabling communication between participants. There is also an on-line ‘Common Room’ available to all users of the academy where more general issues or queries can be aired.

The e-academy will also contain an e-library of resource materials and a search facility. Documents can be downloaded and printed allowing full use of graphics and colour. Access to the library is available under licence. For more information please contact us.

The e-academy has potential to be used as a medium for training where clients have a large geographical spread amongst their staff. This could be a more economic option than bringing individuals together from a number of national or international locations. Equally, it is an appropriate method of training where it is difficult to spare staff for extended periods of time. Participants can choose their learning time to fit in with other work pressures. In an increasingly competitive business world the Insight e-academy offers a versatile and appropriate system of learning.

Virtual Classroom

Insight has recently invested in a Virtual Classroom Programme. We have our own 'virtual training room' which is accessed via a username and password. This enables participants and tutors to meet on-line via a small piece of software that is downloaded to their computers. With headphones and a webcam discussions can be held ‘face to face’ so to speak. The programme features:

Along with our extranet and e-academy, this enables clients to have on-line training sessions and tutorials, avoiding the need to take learners out of their workplace.
